15 year old Nigerian kid, Victor Olatunji, has emerged the Africa’s Mathematics Champion after beating 10,000 other contestants in the continent.
Victor Olatunji is a student of The International School Ibadan, Oyo State, West Africa. For the feat, he earned $5,000 (over N2m) worth of university scholarship from the just-concluded Crux learning Mathematics Contest Africa.
The Crux learning Mathematics Contest Africa (CLMCA) is a pan-African competition where over 10,000 SS2 students from 24 African countries registered for the annual contest through the online platform where qualifying exams was conducted.
Out of the 10,000 contestants, the top 18 participant were shortlisted for the second stage of the reality TV Quiz Show designed to demystify mathematics, identify and reward outstanding students for their brilliance in the subject and social skills.
The candidates were narrowed down to six after spending four weeks in the Mathslounge, a space created to host the competition. These six contestants then advanced to the Dean’s final match to become Africa’s Math Champion.
Victor Adetunji (also known as Root) of The International School in Ibadan ultimately won the competition and received a $5,000 scholarship for college. Femi Ositade (also known as Alpha) of The Ambassadors College in Ota took second place and received $2,500.
In the third place is Joyce (known as Curve) Onubogu of British Spring College, Awka who won $1,500 worth of scholarship.
